Samuel and his father Polycarp were well known fishing tackle manufacturers in Redditch. On the 1841 census Samuel lived with his parents Poylcarp and Ann in Easemore Lane, Redditch. On the 1861 census Samuel and Elizabeth lived in Unicorn Hill, Redditch and Samuel was a Fish Hook manufacturer. In the 1855 Directory and Gazetteer of Worcestershire, Samuel was a Fishing Tackle Maker and Importer of Silk Worm Gut. Samuel died 10th October 1910 and was living at "The Cedars" at the time.
