For over sixty years the ground behind the present library and post office was known as 'Clarke’s Yard', named after Tom Clarke who bought the land in about 1910. His fair had been visiting the town for about 20 years and he decided to make Redditch his home. Every October, he and his extended family parked their caravans and fairground equipment there until the spring.
