In 1870 Kelly's Directory Jonas was Linen Draper, Evesham Street.

On the 1861 census he lived with his mother Betsy and brother William (19) who was a Bootmaker (but on later census became a Wesleyan Minister in Newton all Saints, Lancashire), in Peakman Street and at this time Walter was a Needle Straightener. On the 1851 census Walter lived with his parents William and Betsy in Edward Street and Walter was a Needle Scourer and his father William was a Needle Scourer too. In the 1870, 1872 & 1876 Kelly's Directory Walter was classed as Boot & Shoe Maker in Evesham Street.

By the 1901 census Walter and Emma seem to live in Balsham Cambs. and Walter was a Pastor of the Congregational Church. On the 1911 census Walter and Emma lived in the "Old House" Histon, Cambridgeshire and had daughter Adeline and her husband and family and daughter Lillian staying with them and Walter was now a retired Congregational Pastor. In the 1880 Directory of Worcestershire Walter was classed as Shoemaker, Evesham Street. In the 1884 & 1888 Kelly's Directory Walter is classed as Walter Humphries and Son, Shoemakers, 15 Evesham Street. On later census it is their son William who is the Bootmaker at 15 Evesham Street and then later William Humphries & Sons were at 39 Evesham Street. In 2012 in Redditch, 150 years after Walter first opened a Shoe Shop in Evesham Street there is still a Humphries Shoeshop near to the original site at 30 - 32 Evesham Walk in

In the 1921 & 1924 Kelly's Directory of Worcestershire it stated that William lived at 18 Easemore Road, Redditch. 1924 Kelly's Directory William Humphries & Sons was at 39 Evesham Street and then in 1940 Kelly's Directory they were at 40 Evesham Street.
