My great-great grandad Birch used to live on George Street, roughly about where the Town Hall now stands.  

In the 1920s, the Palace Theatre did not have a piano. Grandad Birch would wheel his upright piano from his house on George Street to the theatre whenever it was needed for performances. After the show, it would be wheeled back again, no matter how late it was.”
