As part of the 2004 refurbishment of the Kingfisher Centre, a multi-screen cinema, the Apollo was opened above the bus station.
In 2013, the Apollo group was taken over by vue cinemas and in late 2013 the multiplex was re-branded as a vue cinema.
Since taking over the Kingfisher Centre in 2011, the new owners have been keen to re-address the lack of a range of eating venues in the centre.  This has always been seen as a limiting factor on the cinema compared with others in the area such as at Rubery. 
The collapse and closure of the T. J. Hughes store has enabled plans for a food court to be advanced.  A new Gym has already taken one floor and a range of restaurants under the branding the “Hub” have been announced for opening in 2014.

The Vue cinema still serve the town today and despite having seven screens and so a range of films showing at any one time, many local still say it was much better "in the day" when we had three cinemas in the town!
