Redditch Library
Local History At Redditch Library
In 2020 the Redditch Library was included in a list of 20th century Redditch buildings compiled by the Historic Environment group of the Worcestershire Archive & Archaeology Service and submitted to Historic England in recognition of its importance.
Like many post war buildings the Redditch Library was “of-its time” and not liked but the 2023 proposals by RBC to demolish the library were firmly apposed by residents.
Redditch Library, designed by John Madin, was opened in 1976.
At that time it was described as "The library sits on one side of the Square more or less surrounded by market stalls".
Market Place/Alcester Street on which the library sits is now pedestrianised and the trees on Church Green have matured to give it a prominent, but relaxed, position in the town centre.
