IT Support
In around 1978 to around 1984 the IT organisation changed to become British Leyland Systems Limited (BLSL) I continued to work on the IT payroll systems and also moved to Coventry Point in 1982 to 1984 where at the end of that period I took on responsibility for the Pensions Systems that were being migrated from Grantham to Redditch at the CDC Data Centre with the Pensions Administration delivered from an office in Northampton.
If I recall correctly the Istel buy out was around 1985 and was timed around my move to Grosvenor House in Redditch working with Jackson Structured Design (JSD) and Jackson Structured Programming (JSP) for projects.

In 1990 to 1993 I worked for the now AT&T Istel Limited at the CDC Data Centre looking after delivering the non-network related services from the Data Centre to the Business units. One big engagement I recall was when the organisation was linking up with Richard Branson at the time the lottery was due to start up and if he had won the bid the data centre in Redditch would have provided the processing. During this period there was significant diversification of IT delivery to not just car manufacturing but health services, travel services, financial services etc.

With reorganisation in 1993 I was targeted with redundancy but managed to secure roles in the Network side of the CDC Data Centre for AT&T BCSE. During this time, I had exposure to supporting more of the Travel side including the Viewdata services that were used by the high street Travel Agents to book peoples holidays that was run from the Data Centre. I recall one time trying to book a family holiday to find the Travel Agent saying the service was down. I called the Data Centre to see what was going on and get an ETA for it to be back on-line to know when I could book our holiday after a coffee and a cake break.

In 1994 I transferred back to AT&T Istel in Grosvenor House to provide IT support for the Payroll systems and I left AT&T Istel in August 1995.

In July 1976 I joined Jaguar Rover Triumph (JRT) on one of if not on the first three-month training courses in IT. After completing the course, I was located at Rover in Solihull in the IT office and aligned with the IT team delivering payroll systems who were in the process of putting the JRT organisation onto the Unipay system provided by Peterborough Software
