NextBackI remember Swaithes Shop, it was indeed on Beoley Road just below the Cricketers Arms on the left hand side going towards Redditch. There was access to the bottom part of the 'rec' (recreation ground on the side). They stocked everything from knitting wools to hardware items - it was a real jumble.
I went to school with the youngest of three (I think) sisters, Elizabeth. We went to St. George's Primary School, and then were the only two to pass for Redditch County High School. One of Elizabeth's sisters, June, was very pretty and was a hairdresser - I think she used to do hair upstairs. I remember listening to one of the pop songs on a record player of the sixties in their bedroom - Take Good Care of my Baby.
I believe the family decamped to Wales (the parents definitely talked with a Welsh accent) at some point so not sure what happened to them.
