My brother and I were cutting hay in the middle of the 25-acre field on the south side of Salters Lane when a German plane came over being chased by three Hurricanes. The rear gunner was firing back but it wouldn't have stood a chance. I heard later that one of the Hurricanes was hit and the engine and came down at Hartlebury.”
“One night, three the bombs were dropped in Evesham Road, Orchard Street and Glover Street. Six were killed, twelve were seriously injured and eight houses were demolished. We rescued a teenage boy who had been sitting in front of the fire. The whole house collapsed around him, he was buried under the rubble not too far down, we got to him fairly quickly. He wasn't injured but he was in a state of shock and the ambulance went off with him, I think he was in the house on his own at the time.”
