Fred's Fish Bar

Further up on the other side was Fred's Fish Bar, run as you would imagine by 'Fred'. A tall individual his fish and chips were always a delight after walking home to Headless Cross from a visit to the pictures. Fred was a devoted fan of Radio Luxembourg, whose music blared out constantly. Especially memorable was the advert from some football conman called Horace Bachelor from Keynsham, Bristol, which he then spelled out 'K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M, just in case you were sufficiently thick as not to have understood him the first time. Apparently in those days of the 'Football Pools' you sent him a dollop of money, he told you how to fill in your coupon, and he raked in the profits from having conned thousands of other 'Wallies' into spreading his bets!!
