Heaphy's

NextBack

Just down a bit was Heaphy's where most of the school uniforms were supplied from. Cyril and Margo Nash owned and ran the shop which always kept up the highest professional image in the town. Cyril always wore a morning suit with a white tape measure around his neck, and shiny shoes you could see your face in. He could occasionally make any suit fit by yanking the sleeves down hard to accommodate long arms such as I had. I once bought a lovely made to measure green tweed suit costing an eye watering £25 for a posh do I was to attend. Halfway through the evening, my one leg felt a bit draughty and with horror I looked down to find the stitching had come undone, right the way from my unmentionables to my ankles – how embarrassing. “Aah”, said Cyril the next day, “obviously a fault with the cotton!” …...... Good job I had put clean pants on!!!!
