Prisoners of War

“There were quite a number of prisoners of war that came and worked on the farms. They weren't in a camp, the farmers found accommodation for them in barns and that sort of thing.”

“They had a good living and they were looked after, some of them stayed on after the war. We knew one German quite well, he used to come dancing and you couldn't wish for a better fellow. He married a Redditch girl. Two Germans used to come and do some part-time work for us and they worked very well I didn't see much of the Italians, they used to live on the farms.”

“Sometimes you would see one walking along the road. They didn't seem to communicate with us, I got on better with the Germans than with the Italians.”
