“Streets were filled with flags, church bells rang and parties were held in the streets. On the afternoon and evening of 11th January those returning” from the war were entertained at the Palace Theatre and given a banquet at the Church Institute in Easemore Road”.
“After the Second World War there was a feeling of exhilaration in the air. The nation had been brought to its knees but had risen, victorious! Everyone was full of the carnival spirit and when the time came for the Redditch carnival to be held everyone went crazy.
Almost the total workforce joined in to help in one way or another and many of the workers, despite the long working day, managed to put in an incredible number of hours"
