I remember one night I was fire watching from the Enfield roof with Wally Powell and a couple of other Enfield workers and we were watching a German plane making its way across the sky. When it reached the moon, it seemed to disappear. Wally shouted out, 'The b...'s gone behind the moon' and we all laughed. But do you know, technology was advancing so rapidly that if he had gone behind the moon, we wouldn't have been all that surprised”.
