The first Chinese Restaurant
NextBackThe first Chinese Restaurant – The Red Peony – appeared in the early sixties halfway up Evesham Street on the left. Naturally tales abounded of the disappearance of most of the cats and dogs of Redditch, but these rumours were apparently totally unfounded. The inside was decorated with a hideous red, heavy pattern wallpaper, the murky atmosphere dimly lit with wall lights sporting Chinese pattern shades of soiled red nature, as were the tablecloths! The food was good though, and the service was excellent, although it was reputed that the staff gambled and played cards well into the early hours, hence their pale drawn out faces.
