The Night the Bombs Fell

NextBack

“I was just coming out of' the Danilo  and the first bomb to drop was on the BSA in broad daylight”

“It took everyone by surprise including the machine gunners and the local residents.”

''A friend of mine Eileen was a nurse and one afternoon we went to the afternoon matinee at the pictures. We came out at about 4 30 or a quarter to five. I looked up and I saw a black thing come out of a plane and drop. We saw a puff of smoke as it landed. I didn't know what it was but Eileen had been in the bombing raids and she recognised it. We both stood there on the steps of the Danilo, gawping at it.”
