Unicorn Hill

NextBack

Huin’s Shoe shop is on the corner of Market Place, Evesham Street, The Parade and Unicorn Hill.  If we walk down Unicorn Hill on the Left Side corner was Burton’s Men’s Outfitters, which previously had been Cranmore Simmons Hardware, then there was a green square with tree and seat before we come to the “Unicorn” Pub.   After some houses there was anther pub the “Sons of Rest” Pub.  We then come to Hill Street before a Second Hand Shop with the wonderful name Madame Annie Ross!.

It was some time ago so I’m not sure of the exact order but there was a Newsagent, Shoe Shop, a Chip Shop run by Polly Brandon then the Ambulance Station, a Ministry Building and yet another pub, The

“Rifleman”.

At the bottom is Oakley Road and the entrance to the Railway Station.

On the right hand side of Unicorn Hill going down is the junction with Bates Hill and Mills Cycles as well as Salon J the Hairdressers.

The Estate Agent, Michael Harrison’s is out side the un-missable Danillo Cinema with a driveway to Car Park at the rear.  Below the cinema was a Cake Shop and houses before the Archway leading to Mr Wheeler’s Bakery. More houses before Barrett’s, later Barrett’s of Feckenham, but then selling saddle etc.

The road off to the right was then known as Windsor Street whereas today its part of Hewell Road. Across the road is “Golden Cross” Pub, still there today, and the entrance to the Railway Yard (Now of course the New Station).  The next row of buildings is a “Ministry” Building (later Chinese Restaurant), Sandilands, a Butchers then a Watchmenders before a few houses. Across the road and over the Bridge is Bromsgrove Road and the junction with Plymouth Road.
