VJ Day

Five months later there was another celebration known as 'VJ Day,' victory over Japan', I can not recall much about this occasion but I do remember some time later listening to the nightly screams of our neighbours son who had recently been released from a Japanese prisoner of war camp. He had lost his right leg and suffered terribly with nightmares, nocturnal screams were the talk of the neighbourhood, they seemed to go on for weeks until sadly one day he hung himself. I heard my mother talking with, a neighbour shortly afterwards and it appears that while he was in Burma his wife had 'run off' with an American serviceman.
