He was awarded the meritorious service medal, home, when he had the regimental number of 17257 and at this time was a Staff Sergeant/Acting  Quarter Master Sergeant in the Royal Army Medical Corp.  Gazette issue 31198. M.S.M. 21st February 1919 which stated His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of valuable services rendered in connection with the war
