His brother Albert James Victor Grier died 4th November 1914.

Evening Despatch – Saturday 26th May 1917, states that he was of a well-known military family of Crabb’s Cross, near Redditch has been gazetted second-lieutenant and recommended for the D.C.M.  His brother Albert was killed at the battle of Mons.
