The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 25th August 1917, states that he was awarded the Military Medal. The medal was awarded for devotion and services to his captain on June 8th, the day when the big explosion took place. The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 20th July 1918, states he was awarded a bar to his Military Medal.
