He was on the HM Leasowe Castle when it was torpedoed in the Mediterranean.  That he is also remembered at Strathmiglo Cemetery, Fife, Scotland.  

He was the eldest son of Mrs Cheape of Bentley Manor.  His brother Leslie St Clair Cheape died in 1916 on war service.
