High Duty Alloys Redditch Heritage
The Founding of High Duty Alloys (HDA) Redditch
High Duty Alloys came into being through the efforts
of a dominant personality, Colonel Wallace Charles
Devereux. From the late 1920s Devereux became one
of the most important names in British industry and
in stature stands alongside any of the people in
aviation at that time, people like Geoffrey de
Havilland, Frederick Handley Page and Sir Henry
Royce. In many ways Devereux and HDA remain
unsung heroes of World War II
Born in March 1893, Devereux first became involved
in the aircraft business in 1922 when he was
appointed Works Manager to Peter Hooker Limited in
Walthamstow. This firm was learning how to forge
aluminum alloys having gained experience with aero
engines during the First World War.
