KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNING
Introduction

This document looks at how life in Redditch changed from the early weeks before and after
War had been declared. From the mobilisation of the towns Army and Navy reserves and
terrestrial’s to the early months of 1915 the town and its traders tried to Keep up
‘business as usual’. However this became more difficult as the months went on.

It will use reports from the Redditch Urban district council, Parish councils , local societies
and churches education committees , and letters and other information from The
Redditch Indicator and where it is possible, other limited documents. In looking at life in
Redditch and the area around it, it also reflects on the national picture.

Subject's will include women at work and at home, health, children and education children
at work, agriculture and agriculture workers production of food, the introduction of food
rationing and other areas of interest such as the Belgium refuges in Redditch and
generosity of the Redditch people that may be included, the 1918 tank bank took over
£.360, 000.
