The Mysteries of Moons Moat

Moons Moat is a scheduled Ancient Monument in the heart of Redditch New Town.
Luckily when the Redditch Development Corporation laid out the new town they
recognised this important site and sympathetically incorporated it in the new town plans.

Little is written in the history of the area about how and why this moated house came
to be where it is and who lived there. This book attempts to answer some of these
         questions.

Ralph Richardson, a respected local historian summaries years of research into its origins
and Zora Payne brings the story to live with here illustrations.

From a more scientific aspect, Deorah Overton catalogues the archaeological
investigations of the site carried out over the last 50 years.

A book to read, enjoy, understand at bit more and to help you make up your own mind
about what is fact and what is fiction.

                     The Moon’s Moat Conservation Group

The Moon’s Moat Conservation Group was formed by concerned Redditch residents to
investigate, conserve and promote the historic Moons Moat site. The Group is funded
by a Local Heritage Initiative grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is
working in partnership with Redditch borough Council.

Over the past few years the group has been able to improve the site substantially,
including clearing mud from the moat, and planting flowers and shrubs which have
encouraged wildlife to settle. As a significant historical and recreational asset of which
the town can be proud the groups aim now is to make sure that that the importance of
the site is appreciated by more residents and visitors to the local area.

The group meets regularly to plan an organise ongoing maintenance of the site and its
publicity to the wider public. If you would like to help or just learn more, please contact
         us.
