“Many local people also
performed on the stage.
Every year a local dance
teacher - Elsie Siddele
Downing, wife of Mr
Biggs the greengrocer, put
on a show to show off the
talents of all her pupils.
Elsie Siddele Downing's Show at the Palace Many Redditch
Theatre in the late 1940s. Cast includes: June entertainers were included
Palmer, Enid Bowden, Joy Darvill (Darvill & in the shows, such as Cliff
Bakers), Edie Crumpton, Cliff? Field, Silvia Gould, Field, Jess Yoxall, Colin
and possibly Mrs. Hawley who was Walter Stranz's Wheeler, John Emms, Joe
mother-in-law.

“My first show at the
Palace was a concert with
the Redditch Youth Club
Choir in the early 1950s.
Also at that time I
remember standing at the
back of the auditorium at
Sunday nights Big Band
shows featuring bands like
Sid Phillips, Ivy Benson’s
The new 1970’s Entrance on Grove Street. All Girl Band, the
Squadronaires and many
more.”
