The Palace Theatre Volunteers - The Unsung Heroes
The Redditch Palace Theatre would not be the local institution it has undoubtedly become without
the great band of Volunteers who have literally ‘helped to run the show’ for the past one hundred
years.
Indeed, the Palace would probably not still be in existence without its Volunteers and their tireless
work in all areas of the Theatre – giving technical help backstage, ushering and giving guidance in
the Front of House, selling programmes, merchandise and ice-creams, picking up litter and working
in the bar.
They come from all walks of life and their ages range from teenagers to octogenarians. Their
common characteristics are enthusiasm for live theatre in Redditch at the Palace, and their
willingness to give of their free time to ensure that it continues. Hopefully they find reward in the
pleasure our patrons take from visiting us, the compliments they often get on their exemplary
customer service and from the sociability of being part of our ‘happy band’ in the ‘family of the
Palace Theatre’.
The Management and Staff of the Redditch Palace Theatre and, doubtless, generations of
performers, would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the Volunteers, past and present
(and future!), and to let them know just how much their time, effort and good humour is always
appreciated.
THANK YOU ALL!

The Redditch Local History Society
The Redditch Local History Society’s aims are to investigate, document and promote the history of
Redditch and the surrounding area.
The Society meets monthly to share information amongst members and with a presentation of local
history interest.
Special interest projects are run by individual members but all members are encouraged to
participate in those that interest them. Throughout the year the Society mounts Local History
exhibitions and supports many local community events.
Redditch Heritage Matters is the monthly Newsletter of the society containing meeting reports,
news stories, comment and details of the Society’s activities. It is circulated electronically to
members and local officials, heritage professionals and residents who share an interest in the
history and heritage of the town.
