The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
The New Town Centre
The new town needed a new town centre, shops and facilities capable of supporting the
increased population.
Should the existing town centre be re-developed or a new “green-field” site contain the new
facilities?
A difficult decision but a bold one was taken to re-developed the existing town centre. This
was one of the most controversial decisions with existing residents.
Today the Kingfisher Centre is in the top-twenty shopping centres in the country.
Built in several phases and ensuring all existing business had an opportunity to
relocate to the new centre, the Kingfisher Centre was one of the largest projects
in the new town development.
