License for the New Theatre – August 1913
A fortnight ago the Bench granted a license for the Redditch Palace, the new theatre and
picture house, which has been erected in Alcester Street, Redditch. It was then arranged
that provisional rules should be observed, and a fresh set of rules be later considered by the
Bench. The rules were now produced, and Mr Hobson, on behalf of the proprietors,
expressed satisfaction with them, and said they were willing for them to be substituted for
the provisional rules. – The Chairman asked that the police should have a copy of the rules,
so that they see they were observed. – Mr Hobson mentioned that there would be no
performances or shows on Sundays. – The Chairman: Suppose anyone wishes to have the
place to preach a sermon in. – Mr Hobson: We shall be pleased to invite one of the
magistrates. I know they are capable. (Laughter)
