Incendiary Bombs

Howard Wright remembers…..NextBack

The I was about 30 years old during WW2, I worked at High Duty Alloys in Redditch, and was a member of the home guard at the alloys. I’d be on duty every night in the guard room, up in Windsor Road.

I remember the one night, Coventry had about 10 hours of solid bombing.

One plane after another flew over, but in Redditch we got off quite lightly as we only had about 4 big bombs dropped, but loads of incendiary bombs came down. Luckily none of them hit the alloys. The bombers would unload their spare bombs on the way home to make the planes lighter, so it was always touch and go.

During the day  the factory made propellers, and engines for the war effort, I worked in the tool room as foreman, and after the war I continued to work there, I was there 48 years in total.

When we heard the war was over it was such a relief to us all.
