My First Job

I Started work in the Treasurer’s Department, Redditch District Council; Mr John Wright was Treasurer.  We were situated in what had been Major Frank Smith’s home on Mount Pleasant.  My job included delivering wages to the council depot in George Street and waiting for signatures of the men.  I also collected the takings from the swimming baths.  Plus from the ladies toilets on Church Green West, from Mrs Wheeler, attendant, who collected, off Mr Bullock the Gent’s toilet attendant, the monies for me – thank goodness!!
