Schooldays

Margaret Hadden remembers…..NextBack

I attended Bridge Street, from Easter 1935 until 1945.  Left to study at Redditch Commercial College for 2 year full-time course which I enjoyed.

In our spare time we went swimming, we read, played netball and went dancing. For Treats we had some sweets but they were rationed so not too many.

On Sundays, Mom, my young sister and I went on mystery coach tours fromm Atkins coach Co., in Hewell Road.  (Houses now on that site)  Dad was away in the R.A.F., for the whole of W.W.2.

A girl of sixteen, on a bike with an “antique” brown leather satchel riding-around with money.  Redditch was a safer place then and everyone was either a relative or friends.  The few crooks were known to our local bobbies.

Dances held on Saturday evenings at Terry’s, Royal Enfield canteen, B.S.A., Sports Club and also Warwick Hotel but I did not go there as a rough element were there.
