Demobbed

Terry Halford remembers…..NextBack

"I had been in Egypt for three years when, early in 1945. I was called to see the Adjutant and she said, 'I have been going through your papers and I see you came in under class B'. This was because I was a bricklayer and bricklayers were essential workers with all the bomb damage. She said, would you like to go home?. I said, 'Show me the door'. Inside four weeks I was demobbed and home. I thought I would take the kids something back I filled my haversack with cheap Turkish delight boxes and boxes of it. Of course, sweets were on ration back home. They still talk about it now"
