Wellington Street - East side
NextBackThe lamp post in the right foreground was one of only two in the street – the other one being located on the left hand corner with Peakman Street – we used the ‘arm’ on the post as a swing reached via the front wall of No.7. The ‘front garden’ of Llewellyns engineering factory was known to us as ‘The Fort’ and was the scene of many epic battles between cowboys and indians, buccaneers and the like.
At the far end, just before the tall building was the rear entrance of the Argosy Works – home of the British Needle Company – in its day one of the most prominent needle manufacturers in the world.
