September 1917
Webheath Soldier Killed – Mr T. James, Heathfield Road, Webheath, has been informed of the
th
death of his son, Private Stewart James. He joined the 8 Worcesters under the Derby
scheme, but was afterwards transferred to the Cardiff City Battalion. He was a despatch
rider, and had been missing since the last day of July. Hope was entertained amongst his
comrades that he had been taken a prisoner, but last week a letter was received stating that
the body had been found, on ground which his regiment had gained. The message he was
carrying on the field of battle was found on him. Before the war he was employed at Novelty
Works, Redditch.
