Partridge’s & Spencer’s Redditch Heritage
Connections
Anne Bradford included extracts from Simon's book in one of her “Memories of Redditch” series
books which were produced with Mike Johnson. Mike Johnson had previously published a video
interview with Ted Partridge and Michael's father, Albert Johnson, bought the Spencer Music shop
in the 1930's from Simon's grandmother, Edith Spencer (nee Oakley). Albert Johnson traded
under the Spencer name until the 1970's before moving the business to Alcester street prior to
the demise of Evesham Street to make way for the Kingfisher Centre.
Extracts from “A Redditch Boyhood” by SIMON PARTRIDGE
Our thanks go to Simon Partridge for firstly recording this interesting story of the Partridge and
Spencer families and then for allowing us to use extracts from it.
