Redditch Station
The station has been relocated three times, in 1868, 1974 and most recently in 1993, to allow
for redevelopment in the town centre. This last movement coincided with the electrification of
the Cross-City Line.
The first station was located in Clive Road. In 1868 it was re-located to a site on the corner of
Plymouth Road and Birmingham Road. Just south of the station the line entered the 365 yard
Tunnel under Mount Pleasant. The North Portal of the Tunnel is at the rear of the current Midland
Red bus garage.
With the development of the New Town, and in particular the new Bus Station adjacent to the
Kingfisher centre the station was moved again in 1974 to its current site, north of the Birmingham
road bridge.Although some stations on the line had closed during the 1950's. The Evesham to
Redditch section of railway line was closed to passengers on a temporary basis on 1st October
1962 because of the poor condition of the track and substitute bus service was introduced.
