The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town



        Housing - The Vision…..


        The Vision for Housing in the New Town included the following:



          ● Location within the town but relationship of site to road and public transport network to
            minimise problems of noise.

          ● Mindful  of  site  conditions  including  levels,  existence  of  natural  features  -  trees.  woods.
            streams. etc. - and precautions to preserve existing trees.

          ● Protection  from  climatic  conditions  particularly  in  open  spaces  and  footpaths  and
            consideration of microclimatic conditions on the particular site.

          ● Maximum separation of pedestrians and vehicles.

          ● Provision  of  one  car  storage  space  for  every  dwelling  with  reserve  accommodation  for
            additional cars beyond this standard plus parking space for visitors cars and service vehicles,
            on a basis of one space to every two houses.

          ●  Vehicular access to within 150' of all dwellings. Turning space for service vehicles.

          ● Integration of dwelling design and layout to achieve convenient and safe access, adequate
            privacy  and  opportunities  for  social  contact  but  maintaining  privacy  both  inside  and
            immediately outside the dwelling.

          ● Adequate day-lighting and sun-lighting standards.

          ● Need for maximum number of family dwellings to be near ground level.
