The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
The complete town plan is based upon segregated areas for different functions fed by
roads whose standard reflects the purpose they serve.
Typically a “Town Centre” houses the retail areas and is surrounded by residential areas.
Commercial and industrial areas are adjacent to residential areas but separated by green
open space.
Pedestrians and vehicles are separated where possible but employment areas are within
easy reach of the residential areas.
Each residential area has easy and
quick access to the town centre
but is organised on a “Bead”
principle, many beads forming the
whole town.
As well as housing, each bead has
convenient local services such as
a “corner shop”, medical services,
community facilities and play
areas.
Again separation of pedestrians
and vehicles.
