The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
During the 2004 expansion of the Kingfisher Centre,
Royal Square was closed and a covered market area
built to the rear of the new Debenhams.
This was a disastrous move disliked by the public
and market traders alike.
In 2008, the market returned to the Market Place/Church Green East/Alcester Street area
and although not rivaling markets in some neighbouring towns it is starting to become
popular again. In 2016 management of the market was transferred to outside contractors.
