The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
Education in Redditch - The Vision…..
The intention of the planners was to create modern school buildings that would blend in
with other buildings and spaces of the New Town.
Schools were built so that access for children was by footpaths rather than roads; this
allowed children to walk to school safely.
First and Middle Schools were often built near to each other so that transition from one
to the other was easy.
The pyramid system of
schools gave a clear route for
children from First to Middle
to High School. It also meant
teachers could work closely
with their counterparts in
feeder schools to aid
transition and pupil progress.
The Community would
benefit by having access to
school facilities. For example,
sports centres were opened
at several High Schools.
NEW College would remain in
the town centre providing
easy access to further
education in modern
buildings.
