Remembering ISTEL
John Leighfield was president of the British Computer Society (1993–4) and
the Computing Services and Software Association (1995–6). He is president
of the Institute for the Management of Information Systems (IMIS), a UK
professional association.
He has been a member of the
council of University of Warwick,
chairman of the advisory board,
and an honorary visiting
professor at the Warwick
Business School. He was pro-
chancellor and chairman of the
council at the University of
Warwick from 2002 to 2011.
In the Queen's Birthday Honours
1998 Leighfield was appointed
Kenneth Baker, MP, Minister for Information as a Commander of the Most
Technology with John Leighfield of BL Systems at the Excellent Order of the British
launch of the IT82 Exhibition at the Science Museum Empire. In 2006, Leighfield was
on 28th April, 1982.
BL Systems In Crisis
John Leighfield had been in his position
of Director of Systems at British
Leyland for just nine months but this
had been sufficient for him to see the
division faced a crisis.
He wrote to his management a very
blunt assessment as follows;
