Cllr. Walter J Stranz
Redditch Mayor in 1986
Walter Josef Stranz came to Britain in 1939 with his 1924 - 2005
family at the age of 15 when they fled from Nazi
Germany. In 1948 he was a teacher at the County Walter J Stranz
High School. In 1952 he was elected to serve (Source: Redditch Standard)
Batchley on Redditch Urban Council representing the
Labour Party and was a councillor for more than 40
years. He was leader of the Labour group of both
Redditch Council and Worcestershire County Council
before his retirement in 1994. He was given
Freedom of the Borough of Redditch in 1994.
