Redditch Heritage My Palace Theatre and other Memories
Firstly Redditch's first professional comedian was Andy Lane who toured the
theatres and music halls in the 1920s. Andy was a former bricklayer and his
family home was in Pardons Road. His father was a general foreman for Huins and
Seedon an old established local builder. He created great interest and a large
following when he packed the Palace Theatre for folks to hear a song he had just
written about the locality called "Where is the Red in Redditch"? He was before
my time, but Lillian Beale remembered him well and the second lines were Where
is the stud in Stanley? and where is the bee in Beoley? I can't remember the rest.
