Redditch Industries – Redditch, Friday, - Business is at the moment very brisk in the
needle and cycle industries, and is improving in the fishing tackle branch, which was the most
hardly hit upon the outbreak of the war. The demand from the American, Canadian, and
Australian markets for hand sewing needles of the medium and higher qualities is, in volume,
about normal for this part of the season. In the home market there is a revived and fairly
keen demand for furnished needle cases and fancy goods for the Christmas and New Year
trade, and the activity is increased by special demands from the Government for meeting
service needs. Makers of machine, surgical, and other large and fancy needles, and most
makes of pins – especially knitting pins – are very busy. There is a keen demand for motor
and ordinary cycles – largely on orders from various Governments, for military purposes –
               and overtime is being worked.
