Derby Recruits Parade at Redditch – A parade of recruits enlisted at Redditch
under Lord Derby’s scheme (Army Reserve B.) took place on Sunday. Over 1100 attested
men turned out. Colonel H. S. Bartleet, V.D., was in command, with Lieutenant-Colonel C. F.

Milward (commanding 3 Battalion Worcestershire Volunteer Regiment) as acting adjutant.
The group leaders were the officers and non-commissioned officers of the Redditch and

King’s Norton Companies of the 3 Battalion, Worcestershire Volunteer Regiment. A
stretcher bearer party form Northfield (V.A.D. Worcester, No. 9) under Section Leader Baker,
and Redditch Church Lads’ Brigade and Boy Scouts from Hewell and Redditch were also
present. Music was supplied by the Redditch Rifle Volunteers, Redditch Town, and Studley
Bands. The principal streets were paraded, and afterwards a short and impressive service
took place in church Green, at the west entrance to St Stephen’s Church. The Vicar the (Rev.
A. Cardross Grant), and the Rev. E. Todd (Congregational minister) officiated. At the close of
the service the National Anthem was sung and the men dispersed. The church parade was
very successful, the arrangements being exceedingly well made and carried out.
