Headless Cross Soldier Killed in Action – Official news has been received by Mrs
Hawkins, 6 Chapel Street, Headless Cross, that her husband, Corporal G. W. Hawkins, of the
th
Worcestershire Regt. (T.F.), was killed in action on August 27 . The deceased who went out
in October 1914, was a reservist, and had been through a number of battles. He was 32
years of age, and leaves a widow and one child. Second-Lieutenant Nott writes that he was
one of the best N.C.O.s, and would very shortly have been made a sergeant. His loss is felt
by all the men of the platoon.

(On the 1911 census Thomas William Hawkins, aged 26, Maskings and Fitting Brakes for Cycles, was married to
Ada, they lived 113 Prospect Road, Reddich.
