               The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 14

               Redditch D.C.M. – Sergt. F. Field (20281), 2  Batt, Worcestershire Regt. has been
               awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry and devotion to duty during the
               recent British advance in France.  All the officers of his company having been killed or
               wounded, Sergt. Field took charge of the company, and held on to an important position as a
               critical moment.  Sergt. Field who is the son of the late Mr f. Field and Mrs Field of 6 Silver
               Street, Redditch, was prior to the war employed at the B.S.A. Works, Redditch.  He took an
               active part in local football, playing in the Redditch, Studley and District League, and also for

               Stoke United in the Bromsgrove League.  When serving with the 10  Batt., Worcestershire
               Regt., he was awarded the Military Medal for bringing in wounded comrades under heavy

               shell and machine gun fire.  Sergt. F. Field’s brother (Private J. Field) is serving with the 4
               Battalion of the same regiment, and has also been awarded the Military Medal.
