Keep The Home Fires Burning

Agriculture after the war remained prosperous, rents and the price of land was high
compared to the pre war market. County Councils across the county expanded the pre war
schemes of providing small holding expressly to returning ex service men. However as the
boom faded in the rest of the economy, farming returned to the slump it had been in
during the decades before the war. That brief war time prosperity only returned to most
farming families on the eve of the next war.
