Prisoners of War – On Saturday the repatriated prisoners of war were
entertained by the Prisoners of War Relief Committee. - 1919
Between 60 and 70 have reached home. The first part of the entertainment was in the
Palace Theatre, the men with their friends occupying the dress circle, while members of the
committee and subscribers filled the other parts. The musical and dramatic recital was given
by local artistes, and artistic in every respect. The soldiers appeared to greatly appreciate
the efforts of the performers. Following the recital, which lasted three hours, the returned
prisoners and their friends, with the committee, adjourned to the Church Institute, where a
capital tea was provided, the table being loaded with provisions. The hall had been
tastefully decorated and the committee of ladies and gentlemen did all they could to make
the men feel that they were back in good old “Blighty.” After tea several of the men spoke a
few words, and assured the committee that the parcels they had sent them had practically
kept them alive. – The Concert Party again rendered songs, and a most enjoyable evening
was spent.
License – The cinematograph and theatrical license of the Palace
Theatre, Redditch, was renewed for 12 months, on the application of
Mr J. Baron, Manager. - 1919
